I'm trying to trace what happened to ANN WILLIAMSON, my gr grandmother(born in Fair Isle, Shetland in 1860). My paternal grandfather, William Williamson, was her firstborn in 1879 in Westray, Orkney. In 1883 she had Helen & in 1890 twin boys, Peter & Charles in Kirkwall. These were all illegitimate births.
The next record I have of her is in Glasgow when she married John MacLeod in 1893, stating on the certificate that she was a widow! She had 3 more sons, John, who died young, Angus & another John.
Does anyone have any connection here?
And does anyone know what happened to the twins, who,I believe, died young?

Having received an 'undeliverable' error to your E-Mail address, posting my response as a follow up.

    Sandra,

Official registration of births only began in Scotland in 1855, therefore there will not be birth certificates available for the persons you mentioned.

The Old Parochial Records for the particular parish may have an entry of the births or Baptisms for them, and most, but not all of these are listed in the IGI as can be seen on this site.
The OPR was filmed in its entirity in Orkney and can be seen at your nearest Mormon Centre.
    Hope this helps.

Further research has shown that the James I metioned had a daughter Ann B 1829 who married (1) William
Robert Smith she married (2) Andrew Hall .
There are no children recorded in the Metis Families
If William was a clerk in HBC then a request to the HBCA for the Norway house records for that period should
yeild a lot of information. The HBC loved to keep records and all diary entries are recorded.

Captain Colin Robertson Sinclair, born Oxford House, Keewatin, August12, 1816, died July 22, 1901. (This is now Oxford House, Manitoba, Canada)

Father: Willaim Sinclair
Mother: Margaret Nahovway Sinclair
On his tombstone in St. Johns Cemetery in Winnipeg reads:

"Sacred
To the memory
Of my mother
Margaret Nahovway Sinclair
This last token of love and affection
is erected by her wandering boy, Colin, 1897"

On the back of the monument is written:
"Eyes of my childhood days shall meet me, lips of a mothers love shall greet me, on the day I follow.
Oh, what hosts of memories rise, sadness dims an old mans eyes"

Colin was sent to Scotland to get educated at a very young age and never saw is mother again, in his old age he came looking for her but she had died approximately 10 years before. So he erected the momunment for her. When he died he requested that he be buried in the same grave and it was requested.
Relations are in San Francisco and Oxford House, Manitoba.

My Grt-grt-grt-grandparents were John and Betsy Muir of Sanday. John Muir was born in the Parish of Lady circa 1800; his wife, Betsy Smith, was born in Caithness circa 1802. According to the 1841 census they lived at Rock Houses, Burness with their four daughters: Jean (b. 1827), Betsy (b. 1831), Janet (b. 1833) and Mary (b. 1839). By the time of the 1851 census, Jean is no longer listed as part of the household. In 1852, John and Betsy sailed to Canada with their three youngest daughters. I would like to know what happened to their daughter, Jean. It is possible that she married a DEARNESS and stayed near Hanover in Burness parish. In 1915, two sons of Janet Muir (Mrs. James Flett) sailed to Sanday to visit the Dearness family. I have some pictures from their visit.

Margaret was born in Morayshire but returned to the Orkneys to marry Kenneth MacKay in 1842.

I'm seeking Anders Robertson, born about 1610 in Stavanger, Norway. Fled from Stavanger to The Orkneys about 1630 with his girlfriend Gjorhild (Gjorvel) who was pregnant. Their son Robert is said to be born somewhere on the Orkney Islands about 1630. Anders died on the Orkneys about 1650 and Robert moved to Bergen about 1655-1659. When he settled in Norway he took the surname Binston. I wonder if the name could come from a farm or a place in the Orkneys.

Anders Robertson's father Robert immigrated to Stavanger from Scotland about 1604. He called himself Krafert and this name I beleive has its origin from a village or small town in Scotland called Crawford.

I hope someone has a clue.

I am trying to trace some relatives of mine in the Kelday family. In particular I wish to contact descendants of John Kelday from Kirkwall (b. 1872) who moved to London and married Kate Page from Whitstable, Kent during the 1890s. John and Kate are my great grandparents. John and Kate lived in London where John worked as a stevedore.

They had three children. The eldest was my grandmother, Alberta Kate (b. 1901), followed by John and William.

My great grandfather died in approximately 1939/40. My great grandmother and great uncle John were both killed in a German bombing raid during World War II, in approximately 1941/42.

My grandmother Alberta Kate and her brother William both moved to Whitstable. Alberta married Jack Barton, who ran a barge out of Whitstable harbour, working the Thames and Medway rivers. They had two daughters, Jean (b. approx 1925) and Shirley (b. 1937), who is my mother.

William Kelday married Ann, and remained in Whitstable.

A further relative is someone my mother refers to as Auntie Jean. I believe her name is Jean Kelday, who married Jim Moss. They lived in Wemyff Street in Rosyth, where Jim worked a tug on the Firth of Forth.

I hope someone out there can help with information regarding my relatives, and keep my fingers crossed for some positive replies.

I am looking for the person or persons who sent a cablegram to the reunion of the descendents of Alexander Sandilands and Mary Tudehope from Pailsley Scotland,(emmigrated in 1912) in Warwick, Qld. Australia, in May 1978, or any Sandiland descendents who may be related. Their youngest daughter Mary, still alive at 93, is my mother in law.
